Speech and language therapists working in clinical situations are in a unique position to contribute to the evidence base. Clinical queries generated from everyday practice can develop into viable research questions which directly relate to SLT services and service users.

To help SLTs become research active within their existing clinical environment, this new edition of Creating Practice-based Evidence has been updated and revised, providing more detail and including new chapters. It retains its practical focus on providing information, advice and guidance to help clinicians get started on manageable research projects, where to seek support and how to move on and develop a research career. New chapters cover:

  • Reviewing and appraising the literature
  • Public and patient involvement
  • Getting funded
  • Obtaining approvals
  • Cost effectiveness of interventions
  • Gathering evidence of universal intervention
  • Getting published

PRAISE FOR THE FIRST EDITION:

This book provides a very accessible and practical guide that is realistic to SLTs in clinical practice. It will be the answer to the prayers of any SLT who wants to start collecting evidence in a useful way, but has difficulty knowing where to start
