From the Foreword

"It is with great pride that I introduce this book (and its companion Practical Otology for the Otolaryngologist) edited by Dr. Seilesh Babu and contributed to by many other members of the Michigan Ear Institute and their former fellows. This book reflects a twenty-five year experience in Clinical Otology, Neurotology, and Skull Base Surgery, an experience rich in contributions in diagnosis, evaluations, electrophysiologic monitoring, and surgical technique innovations and modifications."

"Dr. Seilesh Babu is to be complimented for assembling a group of distinguished otologists/neurotologists to contribute a host of timely topics in these fields. Dr. Malcolm Graham has given us an accurate and concise historical background of Neurotology in general and more specifically Neurotology in Michigan. This book is another great contribution to the field. Dr. Babu and all the contributors are to be congratulated."

Reviews

  • Vik Veer , Newcastle on Tyne, UK,The Journal of Laryngology & Otology(April 2013):
    "The "Practical Otology for the Otolaryngologist" and its companion "Practical Neurotology and Skull Base Surgery", are sister textbooks written by eminent Michigan Ear Institute surgeons. The style and format of these books are very similar, and complement each other well, with regards to content. The materials used in both of these books are excellent; the sturdy hardback covers, high GSM glossy full colour pages and pin-sharp image reproduction quality give a superb first impression. They are also reassuringly not enormous volumes, allowing one to believe that they can be actually read, rather than ending up as a geeky doorstop. Special kudos goes to the Michigan team for producing such high quality images throughout these books. The fantastically clear operative images of the posterior skull base are to be applauded."

  • Neil Fergie, ENT Consultant, King's Mill Hospital and Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham, UK,ENT & Audiology News Vol 23 No 5(November/December 2014):
    "...[A]s indicated in the preface ... this is best suited for ENT, and neurosurgical trainees and practising neurotologists. This is essentially an operative textbook which includes descriptions of the common pathologies encountered with chapters on vestibular schwannoma, NF2 and auditory brainstem implants, lesions of the petrous apex, petroclival tumours, temporal bone malignancy, osseous lesions and finishes with a chapter on stereotactic radiotherapy and cranial nerve monitoring.

    There are eleven chapters in total with the first three describing skull base approaches from a neurosurgical and neurologist perspective and minimally invasive endoscopic approaches. Further chapters deal with specific pathologies and appropriate surgical procedures. Each approach is clearly dealt with in concise and unambiguous text and where imaging or intra-operative pictures are shown, they are beautifully reproduced. Overall the textbook is highly comprehensive in describing the possible approaches in detail along with helpful insights... I found the textbook well written, comprehensive and a valuable addition... At US$175 it represents reasonable value for money."
